Five residential London tower blocks were evacuated today due to fire safety concerns over their external cladding following the deadly Grenfell Tower inferno.The towers in the Swiss Cottage area of north London, containing around 800 homes, were deemed unsafe following urgent tests on their exterior cladding, which was installed by the same contractor as on the Grenfell Tower.Following the snap decision, residents were told to muster at the local library. They will then be sent to hotels across London.

A four magnitude earthquake triggered Tsunami off the coast of Greenland, leading residents to flee for dear life. A dramatic footage has now been released showing the extent of damage done by the natural disaster. A woman filmed the scene as houses floated into the sea and debris scattered across the floor on Saturday. Four people are reportedly missing after the tsunami hit the tiny village, nine people are believed to be injured, with two of them in critical condition. 11 houses were also swept away. United States student Otto Warmbier, who was imprisoned in North Korea for 17 months before being returned home in a coma less than a week ago, has died in a Ohio hospital, his family said in a statement. The 22-year-old was detained in North Korea for allegedly stealing a propaganda sign, and was only returned home to the US last week after his health deteriorated. North Korea said he fell into a coma after taking a sleeping pill, however this is disputed by US doctors. "Unfortunately, the awful torturous mistreatment our son received at the hands of the North Koreans ensured that no other outcome was possible beyond the sad one we experienced today," the family said in a statement. The police in Imo State yesterday confronted a six man dear-devil armed robbery gang in a gun duel that lasted for over a half hour in the Orlu Local Government Area of the state. Over 70 Ghanaian immigrants were deported from the United States on Wednesday for overstaying their permits. The all-male deportees arrived a chartered Delta Airline Flight at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport in handcuffs before they were handed over to local authorities, 3News reports. Abubakar Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, has released a video detailing how insurgents overthrew a military post at the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno state. The insurgents’ operation was carried out before advancing into Jiddari community on Wednesday evening. The Court of Appeal has upheld the ruling of the Edo State Governorship Election Perition Tribunal, which upheld Governor Godwin Obaseki as the duly elected governor of the state. The Appellate Court sitting in Benin, the state capital, threw out the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, challenging the Tribunal’s ruling. INEC had declared Obaseki, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the September 28, 2016, governorship poll. But Ize-Iyamu and his party the PDP approached the Tribunal to upturn the INEC declaration. Failure to achieve this, they went further to the Appeal Court to upturn the election results. But the five-man panel, led by Justice M. B. Dongban Mensem, returned the same verdict, that Obaseki was duly elected, and dismissed the appeal for lack of merit.

Infuriated by the ultimatum of some northern groups calling on Igbos to leave the northern part of the country, a group under the aegis of Rondel Solidarity Movement (RSM) has also given a deadline for a declaration of a Republic of Niger Delta. The Economic and Financial Crimea Commission (EFCC) on Thursday claimed that a number of senior police and army officers shared from the huge funds allegedly doled out by a former minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke for the purpose of influencing the 2015 general elections. The commission also named others who shared in the $115million alleged election bribe money to include officials of the Department of State Security (DSS) the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) among others. The claims are contained in a document tendered at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday, which it said it recovered from Mr. Dele Belgore, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who is currently standing trial before Justice Aikawa for allegedly collecting N450m from Diezani for distribution to the officials.

The Federal Government seems to have been jolted to action by the recall of some judges it alleged were guilty of corrupt practices by the National Judicial Council (NJC). Eight months after they were accused of engaging in corrupt practices, the Federal government failed to further any action against the judges, but has taken action less than a week after their recall by the NJC. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday slammed two of them with criminal charges before a Lagos State High Court. The two judges are Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa and Justice Mohammed Yunusa. In the charges preferred against them, the EFCC accused them of perverting justice, breach of public trust and money laundering, among others. Their count charges varies with Yunusa having four while Nganjiwa is to face 14 count charges levelled against him.
